Fenerbahce and Mourinho set eyes on world-renowned stars like Mane, Morata
After securing the signature of “special one” Jose Mourinho for its managerial seat, Turkish Super Lig giant Fenerbahce started its transfer campaign, aiming to bring in world stars to bolster its squad ahead of a charge for the championship.
As part of Fenerbahce’s busy transfer season, sporting director Mario Branco is set to meet with former Liverpool star Sadio Mane, seeking an exit from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr after only a season at the club.
The 32-year-old Senegalese forward is looking for a return to Europe and his agent, Bjorn Bezemer, is willing to talk to Branco, according to Turkish sports daily Fanatik.
According to Fanatik, Al-Nassr, Mane’s current club in Saudi Arabia, is reportedly willing to negotiate a transfer as they set their sights on other marquee names, including Kevin de Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Bernardo Silva.
Fenerbahce is set to start talks with Al-Nassr if Branco can convince Mane to join the Mourinho project.
While talks with Sadio Mane simmer, another big name has emerged on their target list: Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker recently fueled transfer rumors by expressing his desire to leave Atletico Madrid this summer in an interview.
“I will say it clearly… If I see that Atleti wants to sign eight forwards, I imagine that I am not the club’s priority,” Morata told Cadena SER.
“I can’t stay at Atletico to not play and not be a priority. I’m 31 years old, 32 in October, I can’t be sat on the bench,” he said.
Morata noted how he was unhappy in Spain. “For my life, for what I have to deal with when I go out on the street, the best situation for me is to go play outside of Spain,” he said.
“Many times, my children, who are five years old, don’t understand why there are people who are so angry with their dad,” he added.
Fenerbahce is rumored to be keen on reuniting Morata with Mourinho. The duo had previously worked together while at Real Madrid. However, there are other suitors too, with Juventus where Morata spent two spells at, being one of the forerunners.
Morata is currently in Germany with the Spanish National Team preparing for EURO 2024 tournament which is set to start Friday.
Newly reelected Fenerbahce President Ali Koc had promised a “dream team” to fans after securing Mourinho’s signature.
“We won’t even have to promise the championship (as it will be a given),” Koc said ahead of what appears to be a busy and exciting summer transfer season for Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce was last crowned Super Lig champion at the end of 2013-2014 season, over a decade ago.
