Diego Carlos transfer crisis: Last-minute shock for Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce’s plan to bring Brazilian center-back Diego Carlos to Istanbul faced an unexpected setback last night. After finalizing an agreement with Aston Villa, everything seemed set for the player to arrive in Istanbul at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 21. However, the flight was suddenly canceled, leading to uncertainty around the transfer.
Flight canceled, new flight plan in place
Diego Carlos was scheduled to land at Istanbul Ataturk Airport’s General Aviation Terminal late day, but this plan was abruptly canceled.
The aircraft that was supposed to pick him up had already reached Luton Airport in London, where both the player and his agent were waiting. However, the flight didn’t take off at the expected time.
Wolverhampton’s last-minute bid for Carlos
As the confusion surrounding the canceled flight unfolded, another twist emerged. According to Simon Jones, a reporter from the British press outlet Mail Sport, Wolverhampton, managed by Vitor Pereira, made a last-minute bid for Diego Carlos.
The Premier League club offered Aston Villa a £10 million (12.24 million) deal for the Brazilian defender. This move has added uncertainty to the player’s transfer to Fenerbahce, with the deal being postponed for the time being.
Fenerbahce’s transfer focus amid strong performance
While the Diego Carlos deal continues to dominate the headlines, Fenerbahce is also focused on their strong performance in the Turkish Super Lig. The Yellow Canaries have reduced the points gap to six with the leaders, Galatasaray, and have their sights set on more transfer moves as the winter transfer window progresses.
Acun Ilicali’s bold transfer plans
Acun Ilicali, Fenerbahce’s vice president, spoke about the club’s ongoing transfer plans after their dominant 4-0 victory over Adana Demirspor in the 20th week of the Trendyol Super Lig.
“We are in contact with many key players, and you will see just how serious we are in the coming days. Hopefully, we will strengthen our squad and provide our coach with an even better team to reach success together,” Ilıcalı remarked.
Talisca’s transfer saga continues
One of the most discussed names in Fenerbahce’s transfer window remains Anderson Talisca.
While the Brazilian international has reached an agreement with the club, he is still in negotiations with his current club, Al Nassr, regarding outstanding payments. Reports suggest that Talisca’s agent is in the final stages of agreeing on a payment plan with the Saudi Arabian club.
New flight plan for Diego Carlos
Following the last-minute transfer developments, Fenerbahce’s officials have now arranged for Diego Carlos to fly to Istanbul once again.
According to Sports Digitale’s Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the Brazilian defender is expected to arrive in Istanbul this evening at 6:30 p.m., signaling the next step in his much-anticipated move to the Turkish Super Lig club.
