Berlin police on alert: Türkiye-Netherlands match ‘high-risk’
Berlin Police Union declares the Türkiye-Netherlands match as an unprecedented high-risk match Saturday.
After scoring two goals for the Turkish National Football Team against Austria, Türkiye’s key player Merih Demiral celebrated with a ‘wolf sign’ gesture. This celebration led to a complaint being filed with UEFA, resulting in a two-match suspension for Demiral.
The controversial decision has sparked a significant backlash. Meanwhile, the host nation of the tournament, Germany, has also made a significant announcement.
The Berlin Police Union has classified the Türkiye-Netherlands match as the “highest risk match” and has placed all personnel on high alert.
‘Highest risk level match‘
According to media reports, the announcement stated: “Among the remaining matches, Türkiye-Netherlands is an unprecedented high-risk match. We are keeping all available personnel on high alert for this match. We are also expecting support at the federal level and from other states.”
Berlin police spokesperson Stefan Petersen-Schumann mentioned that the exact number of emergency services would only be disclosed on the day of the match.
