UNRWA reports deadliest week for West Bank civilians
United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has reported that last week was the deadliest for Palestinian civilians in the West Bank since November. The agency highlighted increased violence and destruction in the region amid escalating conflict in Gaza.
UNRWA’s statement read: “Last week was the deadliest for Palestinian civilians in the West Bank since November. Many, including seven children, were killed. This is unacceptable and must stop immediately.”
Israel had announced on August 28 that it had launched its most intensive and comprehensive attacks since the 2002 Second Intifada on refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas, calling it “Summer Camps.”
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, since August 28, 21 Palestinians, including children and the elderly, have been killed in Jenin; 8 in Tubas; 7 in Tulkarem; and 3 in Hebron, with 145 people injured.
After ten days of attacks and raids in the West Bank, the Israeli military withdrew this morning, leaving significant destruction behind.
Since October 7, 2023, 691 Palestinians have been killed in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
