UNHCR reports over 1.2M displaced in Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli attacks
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that over 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to ongoing aerial and ground attacks by Israel.
In a recent post on social media platform X, UNHCR stated, “It has been nearly a month since the deadliest Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon. The country remains in the grip of a humanitarian disaster, with more than 1.2 million people displaced. The need for urgent humanitarian assistance is increasing.”
Reports indicate that the Israeli military has continued controlled confrontations with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, conducting hundreds of airstrikes on southern Lebanese cities, as well as the Bekaa and Baalbek regions, starting on September 23.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since October 8, 2023, a total of 2,255 people have died, including 104 children and 194 women, while 10,524 individuals have sustained injuries.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 27 in Beirut.
In response, Hezbollah has targeted Israeli military bases with rocket and missile fire, although reports indicate that no significant damage has been reported on the Israeli side.
It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced within Lebanon due to the Israeli bombardments.
As the migration wave continues from the southern regions to the capital, Beirut, and northern areas, the Lebanese government has reported that more than 430,000 displaced individuals have fled to Syria.
