UN chief Guterres hails fall of Assad’s regime, calls for rebuilding
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday welcomed the fall of Syria’s “dictatorial regime” and urged the country to focus on rebuilding after President Bashar al-Assad’s sudden downfall.
“After 14 years of brutal war and the fall of the dictatorial regime, the people of Syria now have a historic opportunity to build a stable and peaceful future,” Guterres said in a statement.
He also called for calm, urging the avoidance of violence during this sensitive time while ensuring the protection of all Syrians’ rights.
