The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reopened its embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, after being closed for over three years. This move is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement:

As part of efforts to strengthen the bilateral ties between the UAE and our brotherly Lebanon, the UAE Embassy in Beirut has officially resumed its operations.

The ministry’s undersecretary, Omar al-Shamsi, emphasized that the embassy’s reopening represents an important step in enhancing cooperation between the two nations. It also reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting stability and development in Lebanon.

On Jan. 13, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a delegation had been sent to Lebanon as part of preparations for the embassy’s reopening.

The country had previously withdrawn its diplomats and imposed a travel ban on its citizens to Lebanon after remarks made by Lebanon’s Information Minister George Kordahi in October 2021, where he criticized Saudi Arabia’s role in the Yemen conflict.
