Turkmens in Syria’s Latakia hold first Friday prayers after Baath regime’s collapse
Turkmens in Syria’s western province of Latakia gathered for their first Friday prayers since the fall of the 61-year Baath regime.
Many Turkmens, displaced by Bashar al-Assad’s regime, began returning to their homes after the regime’s collapse on December 8.
At Rahman Mosque, residents offered prayers, celebrating their return home and reunion with their community. Following the prayers, the community displayed Syrian revolution flags and chanted slogans expressing hopes for a “new Syria.”
The gathering marked a moment of gratitude and optimism as Turkmens began reclaiming their lives in the post-regime era.
Bashar al-Assad, who had ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on December 8, ending the Baath Party’s rule that had lasted since 1963.
