Türkiye strongly condemns attacks targeting Syria’s unity: President Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated Monday that Ankara “strongly” condemns all attacks threatening Syria’s territorial integrity and social stability, as well as acts of terrorism and intimidation.

Erdogan highlights Syria’s stability amid ongoing tensions
Speaking during an address after the cabinet meeting, President Erdogan noted that the situation in Syria has largely been brought under control through the Syrian government forces’ “effective intervention.” However, he warned that conditions on the ground remain fragile.
Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye is taking necessary precautions to prevent any developments that could negatively impact the country. He also called on Syria to act swiftly to ease tensions in the region.
“As we advocate ‘peace for all, stability for all,’ power groups that feed on instability in the Islamic world do not remain idle. In many places, conflicts and chaos are being instigated, sometimes based on ethnicity, sometimes on sectarian divides. We recently witnessed this in Syria, where remnants of the former regime attempted to incite sectarian strife through acts of terror,” Erdogan stated.
He further added, “Thanks to the effective intervention of the Syrian government, the incidents have largely been brought under control, but the situation on the ground remains sensitive. Türkiye strongly condemns all attacks and acts of terror targeting Syria’s unity and social peace. We are taking necessary precautions and urging Syrian authorities to swiftly ease tensions.”
Erdogan also welcomed President al-Sharaa’s commitment to maintaining order, stating, “We see President Sharaa’s calming and firm stance, particularly his commitment to punishing those acting outside the law, as a positive step. He has adopted an inclusive policy rather than falling into the trap of revenge. We sincerely hope that Syria will soon achieve the lasting peace and stability it has long yearned for.”

Türkiye’s position on regional conflicts
President Erdogan reiterated that Türkiye does not base its policies on ethnic, religious, or sectarian divisions in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, or any other country in the region.
“When 1 million Syrians were massacred by the Baath regime, we stood firm. Today, we remain in the same position,” Erdogan said.
He added, “I believe that the Syrian people will not allow their country to be fragmented or dragged into instability. We are allies, bound by destiny. To those who have tried for 14 years to bring Syria’s fire into our land, let me remind you: we do not concern ourselves with anyone’s ethnicity, religion, or sect, whether in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, or any other regional country. What we defended last year, despite the most primitive forms of fascism during election campaigns, we still defend today with unwavering determination.”
“No one can lecture us on morality. Those who remained silent for 14 years while innocent children were killed cannot now act condescendingly toward us. We have upheld our brotherhood both in Syria and in Gaza with honor,” Erdogan asserted.
