President Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded severe repercussions for Israel’s actions, asserting that only significant punishment can deter future cruelty.

“Israel must face the consequences of its actions, ensuring that the punishment serves as a stark deterrent against anyone considering such cruelty again,” Erdogan stated to reporters on his return flight from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Erdogan also addressed the recent advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which affirmed Palestinians’ right to self-determination and called for the evacuation of Israeli settlements in occupied territories. He expressed hope that this and previous ICJ decisions not acted upon by Israel would prompt a global awakening.

The Turkish President urged the U.S. to exert pressure on Israel, specifically calling for the withdrawal of support from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to end the “oppression” in Gaza.

“The whole issue is for those who stand for justice against Israel’s actions to unite, ensuring everyone stands alongside the decision of the ICJ. We can only disrupt this game with such a stance,” Erdogan said. He emphasized that to end the ongoing oppression, it is crucial for the U.S. administration to act against Israel and its leadership.

The ICJ’s ruling on Friday urged Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories “as rapidly as possible” and to make full reparations for its “internationally wrongful acts.” The court also cited multiple breaches of international law by Israel, including activities tantamount to apartheid.

Since the onset of Israel’s offensive on October 7, Gaza’s local health authorities report that over 38,900 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed, with more than 89,600 others injured.
