Türkiye continues operations against YPG/PKK in northern Syria

Türkiye’s military operations against the terrorist organization YPG/PKK in northern Syria are ongoing, a Turkish Defense Ministry official speaking to Reuters said on Wednesday.
The statement comes after a reported agreement between the SDF and the new government in Damascus under al-Sharaa’s leadership.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not disclose details regarding the specific locations of the ongoing military actions.
However, Türkiye has previously conducted multiple cross-border operations targeting the YPG, which is the Syrian branch of the PKK, a designated terrorist group in Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union.

Turkish MoD urges PKK to disarm, disband
Turkish Ministry of Defense officials have recently called for the immediate disarmament and dissolution of the PKK and all affiliated groups, emphasizing that these organizations must “end terrorist activities, disband, and unconditionally surrender their weapons.”
The statement came during a press briefing on March 6 at the Ministry of National Defense (MoD) where officials addressed questions from journalists on several critical issues, including PKK ringleader Abdullah Ocalan’s Feb. 27 call for the terrorist group to lay down arms and dissolve itself.
“It is noteworthy that the organization has finally realized, albeit belatedly, that nothing can be achieved through terrorism, that it has completed its lifespan, and has no choice but to dissolve itself,” defense ministry sources said.
Defense officials emphasized the process would not be allowed to be sabotaged or prolonged, adopting a “cautious and rational approach” as previously stated by the defense minister.
