Turkish military attache begins duty at embassy in Damascus

Lt. Colonel Hasan Goz has officially begun his duties as the military attache at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, marking a new chapter in Türkiye-Syria military cooperation, the embassy announced Tuesday.
Strengthening military cooperation
The Turkish Embassy in Damascus confirmed the appointment in a statement shared on its official X account, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration between the two countries. “Our military cooperation with brotherly Syria continues intensively,” the statement read.
This development follows Türkiye’s recent efforts to strengthen diplomatic and security ties in the region.
The Turkish Embassy in Damascus resumed operations in December after a 12-year hiatus, coinciding with the departure of former regime leader Bashar al-Assad and the transition to the administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Resumption of diplomatic engagement
The reestablishment of Türkiye’s diplomatic presence in Damascus underscores renewed bilateral engagement between the two nations.
The appointment of a military attache signals an emphasis on defense cooperation and strategic dialogue.
Türkiye has played an active role in regional security dynamics and has engaged in discussions on various military and security matters with Syrian officials. The latest appointment is seen as part of a broader effort to stabilize and strengthen ties in key areas of mutual interest.
