Turkish media captures damage at strategic T4 air base in Syria after Israeli strikes

Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency (AA) has documented the aftermath of recent Israeli strikes on the T4 air base, a key military installation in central Syria.
The base, located west of Palmyra (Tadmur) in the Homs province, has long served as a strategic military hub and has been a key target of Israel’s recent airstrikes in Syria.
According to visuals recorded by the AA team, significant damage was observed across the facility, which has previously been used by Syrian government forces as well as Russian and Iranian military units.
T4 air base: Strategic location and military significance
Also known as Tiyas air base, the T4 facility is one of Syria’s largest and most important airbases. Its location between major cities such as Homs and Damascus offers logistical advantages and facilitates rapid deployment.
Key features of the base include:
- Multiple long runways
- Large hangar and aircraft deployment zones
- Accessibility via road networks to major urban centers
Initially developed and modernized with Soviet support during the Cold War, the base played a pivotal role in the air operations of the former Syrian regime.

Israeli strikes target key military assets
Following the collapse of centralized control in Syria, the T4 airbase has increasingly come under Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian-linked forces.
The latest Israeli operation involved four separate strikes, according to a source who spoke with AA at the site.
The strikes reportedly targeted:
- Central sections of the main runway
- Radar systems
- Aircraft hangars
- S-200 and S-400 air defense systems
AA footage showed parts of the base heavily damaged. Some hangars were visibly destroyed, and grounded fighter jets appeared to be out of service.
