Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) eliminated Serhat Tagar, known by the codename “Mervan Hizan,” a senior figure in the PKK/YPG terrorist group, during an operation in the Gara region of northern Iraq.

Intelligence pinpoints key target

Security sources revealed that Tagar’s location was identified following extensive intelligence efforts. The operation targeted Tagar with precision, eliminating him in a critical blow to the PKK/YPG’s operations in the region.

Background on terrorist Serhat Tagar

  • Tagar joined the PKK/YPG in 2014.
  • Between 2017 and 2019, he operated in the Zap area of northern Iraq.
  • He participated in multiple actions against security forces and coordinated the transfer of weapons, ammunition, and explosives for the terrorist organization.
  • Tagar also served as a bodyguard for high-ranking PKK/YPG terrorists.
