The PKK/YPG terrorist organization attempted to infiltrate the Dayr Hafir area, cleared of terrorism as part of Operation Dawn of Freedom, resulting in a deadly ambush that killed six Syrian National Army (SNA) soldiers, according to local reports.
The attack occurred in the early hours as PKK/YPG terrorists based in Manbij targeted SNA units conducting security sweeps in Dayr Hafir, located in eastern Aleppo.
After intense clashes, the militants launched a secondary assault on SNA positions before retreating to the Manbij line.
PKK/YPG presence and cross-border attacks
The PKK/YPG terrorist organization has been operating from its stronghold in Manbij and frequently attempts to infiltrate territories cleared of terrorism. It is also accused of targeting civilians in these areas through ground-to-ground attacks.
The SNA launched Operation Dawn of Freedom on Dec. 1 to counter PKK/YPG efforts to establish a terror corridor between Tel Rifaat and northeastern Syria.
