Tribes in Tell Abyad call for support against PKK/YPG

Tribes gathered in Tall Abyad, a district liberated from the PKK/YPG terror group through the Turkish Armed Forces’ (TAF) Operation Peace Spring in coordination with the Syrian National Army, and demanded the liberation of occupied territories from the group.

In a statement, the tribes highlighted that people in the Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and al-Hasakah regions are living under dire conditions, with PKK/YPG terrorists further worsening the region’s security and humanitarian situation

The statement underlined that the terrorists’ practices—such as detaining and displacing local residents and forcibly recruiting children into their ranks—have brought devastation to the area. It added, “Thousands of citizens have lost their homes and lands, while families have been scattered across refugee camps and neighboring countries. Meanwhile, the gangs are stealing the region’s resources, leaving the population in poverty and deprivation.”

Calls for international intervention

The statement pointed out that the terrorist group is deepening the suffering of the people and obstructing efforts for their return, and included the following remarks:

“We call on the international coalition to adopt a serious and deterrent stance against these brutal militias, to end their occupation, and to ensure the safe return of the people to their homes. Such support will strengthen efforts to rebuild the Syrian state and enhance the stability of the region. We also call on the Syrian government to reject any attempts by these gangs to negotiate on behalf of the people of Jazira and to take responsibility for liberating all occupied areas of Jazira.”

Raqqa, a predominantly Arab region, has been under terrorist PKK/YPG occupation since late 2017, with the support of the U.S.

It has forcibly recruited civilians into its ranks and has prevented many local residents from rebuilding their homes, many of which were destroyed last year by intense coalition airstrikes.

The terrorist YPG/PKK, however, does not provide any public services, while residents accused of having links with the opposition frequently face arbitrary detention.

With the ouster of Syria’s Assad regime, the terrorist PKK/YPG has been seeking to exploit the country’s instability and power vacuum.

In its 40-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the U.S. and EU, has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, infants and the elderly.

The YPG is the PKK’s offshoot in Syria, an area where for years the group has tried to establish a terrorist corridor along the Turkish border.

In recent years Türkiye has deployed troops and worked with local allies such as the opposition Syrian National Army to prevent this and keep locals and the border safe from terrorist oppression.
