Syrian opposition groups advance within 1 kilometer of Aleppo’s outer neighborhoods
Opposition groups fighting against Assad’s regime have reached within 1 kilometer of the outer neighborhoods of Aleppo, according to local sources.
The clashes, which involve Assad’s forces and opposition groups, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), are concentrated in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces.
Fighting erupted early yesterday morning in Aleppo’s western countryside and has continued throughout the day. Opposition forces have seized control of 34 villages and other strategic locations in western Aleppo, with two more villages falling to them this morning.
Syria’s conflict erupted in 2011 after Assad crushed anti-government protests, escalating into a complex war involving foreign armies and rebel groups.
The war has killed over 500,000 people, displaced millions, and devastated the country’s infrastructure and industry.
The Idlib region remains under a fragile cease-fire, brokered by Türkiye and Russia after a Syrian government offensive in March 2020, although violations have occurred.
