Syrian opposition forces advance into central Aleppo, capture key areas in city
Syrian armed opposition groups fighting against Assad regime forces advanced into central Aleppo late Friday, seizing key areas in the city. Local sources reported that opposition fighters entered Aleppo’s city center around midday and continued pushing into inner neighborhoods by evening.
By the end of the day, opposition forces had gained control of Sadallah al-Jabiri Square, a major landmark in Aleppo, and claimed 400 square kilometers (154 square miles) of territory.
The groups also made significant progress in Idlib province, entering the strategic town of Saraqib, crucial for supply routes and regional control.
In the last three days of fighting, opposition forces captured 108 locations across Aleppo and Idlib provinces—86 in Aleppo’s rural areas and 22 in Idlib. During this period, they secured at least 850 square kilometers of territory.
In a separate incident, Russian warplanes targeted the northern Aleppo district of Mare on Friday evening, killing eight members of the Syrian National Army.
The fighting began early on November 27 in western Aleppo’s rural areas. By the second day of clashes, opposition forces had advanced towards the city center and captured several locations in Idlib.
As the conflict intensified, many regime-affiliated individuals fled from Aleppo to Damascus. By afternoon, opposition groups had entered Aleppo’s city center, with further advances made by evening.
