A Russian airstrike targeted Aleppo University Hospital in Syria’s city center on Sunday, leaving nine dead and 10 others wounded, according to local sources.

SU-24 airstrike causes fatalities and injuries

The attack, carried out by SU-24-type Russian aircraft, struck the hospital amid ongoing fighting in northern Syria. Initial reports indicate the strike caused significant casualties, with emergency services working to assess the damage and provide aid to the injured.

Escalating conflict in Aleppo and Idlib

Clashes between Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups began on Nov. 27 in the western countryside of Aleppo. By Nov. 30, opposition forces had advanced rapidly into Aleppo’s city center, capturing much of the area.

On the same day, anti-regime groups seized control of Khan Shaykhun, securing their dominance over the entire Idlib province. The fighting has intensified tensions in the region, with airstrikes adding to the humanitarian toll.

Humanitarian concerns mount

The airstrike on a civilian hospital underscores the growing risks to non-combatants in the conflict.

Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for measures to protect critical infrastructure and prevent civilian casualties.
