Over 1.2 million displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli attacks
More than 1.2 million people in Lebanon have been displaced by ongoing Israeli attacks, according to Lebanese caretaker environment minister Nasser Yassin.
In a statement reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency, Yassin said that efforts are being made to house the displaced population, but shelters are rapidly filling up.
870 shelters at capacity, schools overwhelmed
“We are racing against time to house them, and there are now more than 870 shelters, especially in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, where schools have reached their maximum capacity,” Yassin stated.
The minister highlighted the challenges of accommodating the displaced as the conflict continues to intensify.
Calls for cease-fire, diplomatic efforts
On the possibility of a cease-fire, Yassin noted that there are ongoing diplomatic efforts, with initiatives from countries such as Egypt, Qatar and France.
However, he expressed frustration, saying: “It is clear that the Israeli side does not care about international laws and resolutions.”
Yassin also emphasized the importance of raising global awareness about the situation in Lebanon, adding that diplomatic work is being activated both at home and abroad to protect the country and its people.
