No tolerance for anti-Türkiye sentiment on the island: Turkish Cyprus President Tatar

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar stated that any attempt to foster anti-Türkiye sentiment on the island will not be tolerated.
In a written statement addressing recent protests, Tatar emphasized the deep-rooted bond between the Turkish Cypriot people and Türkiye, crediting the Turkish military for the island’s decades-long peace and security.
“If we have been able to live in peace on our island for more than 50 years—despite all conflicts and tensions—and if we feel secure, it is thanks to the heroic Turkish army,” Tatar declared.

‘No room for anti-Türkiye sentiment’
Tatar criticized certain groups for exploiting internal political debates in the TRNC to divide the Turkish Cypriot community and incite anti-Türkiye rhetoric for political gain.
“Just as our national and cultural identity is vital, so too is the unbreakable bond we share with our homeland, Türkiye. These elements are intertwined and inseparable,” he said.
‘Türkiye always defended Turkish Cypriots’
He also highlighted Türkiye’s unwavering support for the TRNC across international platforms, noting Ankara’s role in vital infrastructure and development projects—especially the landmark water supply initiative.
“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s encouragement and commitment are behind every major step taken in health, education, transportation, and infrastructure,” Tatar noted.

‘No one can undermine our historical goals’
Touching on regional unrest and security concerns, Tatar reiterated that the Turkish military’s presence is the guarantor of peace on the island.
“The Turkish Cypriot people are working toward a stronger and more prosperous future. This goal can only be achieved through unity and the continued strength of our ties with Türkiye. No individual or political party has the right to undermine these historical objectives for short-term political advantage,” he said, adding that he will firmly oppose any such attempts.
