New joint border crossing opens between North Macedonia, Kosovo

A new joint border crossing has been established at the Bllace-Hani i Elezit Border Gate, located between North Macedonia and Kosovo.
This initiative is designed to simplify border crossings, reduce waiting times, and enhance the efficiency of border controls.
The launch ceremony was attended by North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, ministers from both countries, and other distinguished guests.

Prime Minister Mickoski highlighted that the project marks the beginning of a new phase in bilateral cooperation. He emphasized that this effort goes beyond modernizing a border crossing, offering new perspectives for citizens, the economy, and the region. “The border should not be a barrier, but a bridge that connects people, ideas, and opportunities,” Mickoski stated.
Prime Minister Kurti added that the joint border points strengthen the connection between the two countries and reinforce good neighborly relations. He noted that over 5 million people crossed the three border points between North Macedonia and Kosovo in 2024, underscoring the strong ties between the nations. Kurti explained that the new system, based on the “entry-entry” principle, is a tangible sign of growing trust and practical progress.
After the speeches, the guests toured the new joint border crossing facility.
The joint border crossing aims to make border crossings smoother, reduce wait times, and improve the overall effectiveness of border control processes.
