Israel’s War Cabinet has accepted U.S. President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal. However, far-right ministers in the government are discussing overthrowing the government

Israel has responded to U.S. President Joe Biden’s announced three-stage ceasefire proposal for Gaza. Israeli War Cabinet Member Benny Gantz announced that the Israeli Military Council unanimously accepted the ceasefire.

While Israel is said to have accepted the end of the war after the delivery of prisoners, cracks have begun to appear in the Netanyahu government. Israeli ministers are threatening to dissolve the government unless Netanyahu ends it.

Biden had announced that in the first stage, there would be a 6-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, in the second stage, all hostages would be taken from Hamas while preserving Israel’s interests, and in the third stage, reconstruction of Gaza would begin, providing a safe Gaza without Hamas.

According to Israeli media reports, Israeli War Cabinet Member Benny Gantz has called for an urgent meeting of the Israeli Military Council to discuss Biden’s ceasefire proposal.

Following the approval of the ceasefire in the Israeli Military Council, Gantz made a statement that the ceasefire proposal was unanimously accepted by the War Cabinet.

After the approval of the ceasefire in the Israeli Military Council, objections arose from the Netanyahu government.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich threatened to leave the government if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the agreement. Smotrich said, “I will not be part of a government that accepts ending the war in Gaza.”

Extreme Israeli Public Security Minister Ben-Gvir also threatened to dissolve the government. Ben-Gvir said that accepting the agreement was “not an absolute victory, but an absolute defeat.”

In a statement from Hamas, it was said, “We view positively the latest ceasefire proposal shared by Biden. We are ready to positively consider any proposal for a permanent ceasefire.”
