Israeli military poised for operations in Lebanon, US officials say
The Israeli military may have initiated or is on the verge of launching operations in southern Lebanon aimed at dismantling Hezbollah positions near the border, according to U.S. officials.
U.S. officials have observed increased activity along the border, signaling potential military action.
While Israel has not yet made a final decision, sources indicate the country is prepared for a ground operation, though it is expected to be limited in scope.
This comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Israeli forces remaining on high alert as Hezbollah’s presence in Lebanon continues to pose a strategic threat.
Since the October 7 Israel-Hamas war, Hezbollah and Israel have engaged in tense military conflict. This tension entered a new phase when Israel blew up Hezbollah fighters’ walkie-talkies and pagers. Most recently, Israel eliminated several Hezbollah leaders, including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, in its attacks on Beirut.
