Israeli forces withdraw from Jenin after 10 days of raids, leaving destruction
Israeli military has withdrawn from the city of Jenin and its refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank, following 10 days of intense raids that left a trail of destruction.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israeli occupation forces pulled back after deadly assaults that left dozens of Palestinians killed or injured. Residents of Jenin fear that the Israeli forces, after repositioning at nearby military checkpoints, will return to attack the city and camp again.
The Israeli military caused extensive damage to the infrastructure in Jenin’s main roads, refugee camp, and eastern neighborhoods, severing water, electricity, and communication lines.
On August 28, Israel announced the launch of its most intense and comprehensive assaults on refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas since the Second Intifada in 2002, dubbing it “Summer Camps.”
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, since August 28, 39 Palestinians, including children and the elderly, have been killed in Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarm, and Hebron, while 145 have been injured.
Since October 7, 2023, 691 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem amid ongoing violence from Israeli forces and settlers.
