Israeli airstrikes rock Jableh district in Syria’s Latakia province
Israeli aircraft conducted multiple strikes in the Jableh district of Syria’s Latakia province around 4:00 a.m. local time (0100 GMT), according to Syrian media reports on Thursday.
The attacks triggered powerful explosions, with air defense systems reportedly attempting to respond, as noted by social media accounts affiliated with the Syrian regime.
A fire broke out at the attack site and explosions continued to be heard.
No official statements have been released by either Israeli or Syrian regime authorities regarding the incident.
Iran-backed groups are known to operate in Jableh, Latakia, where Russia’s Hmeimim airbase is situated.
Since the civil war began in 2011, Israel has periodically targeted military positions belonging to Iran-backed groups and the Syrian army.
