Israel not taking sides in Syria conflict, says foreign minister
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar emphasized that Israel has no intention of supporting any side in the ongoing conflict in Syria.
Speaking at a security conference organized by Israel Hayom on November 27, Sa’ar addressed the recent developments in Syria, particularly the clashes between Syrian government forces and anti-government armed groups in the western countryside of Aleppo province.
“We do not wish to take sides in this matter,” Sa’ar said.
He noted that there is no clear “good side” between the Syrian regime led by President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition groups. While Israel is not directly involved in military operations in Syria, Sa’ar underscored that Israel is closely monitoring the situation.
The recent violence in Syria has intensified. On November 27, clashes erupted in the western countryside of Aleppo, where Syrian government forces and opposition groups have been engaged in heavy fighting.
By the evening of November 28, opposition fighters advanced quickly from the western outskirts of Aleppo towards the city center.
By November 30, these groups had seized a significant portion of the city, including the strategic town of Khan Shaykhun, effectively securing control over much of the Idlib region
