Israel mobilizes 3 additional reserve brigades signalling ground offensive
The Israeli military announced the mobilization of three additional reserve brigades as part of its ongoing operations in the region on Saturday.
This latest move comes amid intensified airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled areas in Beirut, escalating military actions in Lebanon. This might be a signal for Israel’s potential ground offensive to southern Lebanon.
More Israeli reserve brigades have been called
According to a statement from the Israeli army spokesperson, three reserve brigades under the Central Command have been called to active duty.
The Israeli Central Command operates in territories that include the occupied West Bank, another critical area of Israeli military operations.
This follows a recent call-up of two reserve brigades under the Northern Command, which are assigned to the Lebanese border region.
Israel has been conducting airstrikes over the past week, with the most severe attack targeting the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiya, a Hezbollah stronghold.
The Israeli army claims the airstrike was aimed at Hezbollah’s main headquarters, resulting in the destruction of at least six buildings.
Claiming the airstrikes killed the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
“In accordance with the situational assessment, the IDF is calling up three reserve battalions for operational activities and to strengthen the defense in the Central Command,” the Israeli military said. It provided no further details.
Heavy airstrikes in Beirut
The escalation in Beirut began approximately a week ago, with Israeli airstrikes focusing on Hezbollah positions.
The Dahiya region, known for its affiliation with Hezbollah, has been a focal point of these operations.
The most recent attack led to the destruction of six buildings, which the Israeli military claimed were connected to Hezbollah’s operations.
The ongoing military campaign has significantly increased tensions along Israel’s borders with Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
Increased Israeli mobilization
In response to the heightened military activities, Israel’s Central Command has expanded its mobilization efforts, bringing in three additional reserve brigades. The Central Command is responsible for operations in the West Bank.
Earlier, the Israeli military had also activated two reserve brigades from the Northern Command, positioning them along the Lebanese border.
