A freelance cameraman for Turkish news agency, Saed Abu Nabhan, was shot and killed by an Israeli sniper while on duty in the Nuseirat area of central Gaza Strip, the agency reported Friday. Abu Nabhan, 25, had a wife and one child.

Abu Nabhan was covering events in the region when he was fatally shot with a long-barreled gun, Anadolu said.

The Israeli military first surrounded the Al-Jadeed camp, located in Nuseirat, where several journalists were covering the situation.

Following this, they began targeting individuals in the vicinity. Footage from the scene shows a wounded individual being rushed out of a house on a stretcher by aid workers.

In the footage, Abu Nabhan can be seen running while covering the incident. At that moment, he is struck by what appears to be a long-range sniper shot. Abu Nabhan falls to the ground, and people nearby are seen hesitating to approach him, fearing further attacks from Israeli gunfire.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa confirmed Abu Nabhan’s death, reporting that he was fatally wounded during the attack.

203 Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since Oct. 7

His death brings the total number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, to 203. Additionally, 399 journalists have been reported injured, and 43 others have been captured by Israeli forces.

The Israeli army has continued its offensive on Gaza, which has claimed more than 46,000 lives, mostly women and children, since Hamas’s initial attack on October 7, 2023. Despite calls from the U.N. Security Council for an immediate cease-fire, Israeli military operations persist.

In November 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its ongoing military actions.
