Iraqi militia group launches drone attack on Israeli base
An Iran-backed Iraqi militia group claimed responsibility for drone and missile attacks on “vital targets” in Israel on Sunday.
In a statement, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced it had targeted a “vital site” in Israel using drones, although no specific details were provided.
The group also reported launching upgraded cruise missiles at targets in northern Israel and a third site in southern Israel with drones.
These attacks were described as “in solidarity with our people in Palestine and a response to the massacres perpetrated by the occupation against civilians, including children, women and the elderly.”
There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials regarding the report.
Regional tensions have heightened amid Israel’s ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in nearly 41,400 deaths, mostly among women and children, following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 of last year.
