Iran‘s parliament has approved a significant increase in military spending for the coming year, with defense expenditures set to rise by over 200%, according to the government’s newly proposed budget.

Iran’s major boost in military spending

Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani confirmed the development during a press conference in Tehran, emphasizing the importance placed on addressing defense needs.

“Special attention has been given to this matter. As a result, there has been a substantial increase of over 200% in the country’s military budget,” Mohajerani stated.

This surge in defense spending reflects Iran’s commitment to bolstering its military capabilities amid ongoing regional tensions and global pressures.

Iran’s stance on US elections

When asked about Iran’s position on the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, Mohajerani dismissed its significance for Tehran. “The U.S. election concerns the American people, and it doesn’t matter to us which candidate wins,” she remarked.

Mohajerani further expressed hope that the next U.S. administration would respect other nations’ sovereignty and avoid policies that escalate tensions in the region. “Whenever the U.S. has heightened tensions, they have seen the costs,” she added.

Iran’s border security measures

Mohajerani also discussed the ongoing efforts to strengthen Iran’s eastern borders in response to illegal migration. The construction of a wall along the eastern border continues, and the government is actively deporting unauthorized foreign nationals.
