A joint military exercise between Iran and Armenia has taken place at the Nurduz border, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

Maj. Gen. Valiollah Mani, deputy chief of operations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Ground Forces, stated that the purpose of the drill was to strengthen the security of the border regions.

Mani emphasized, “There is no threat to the border areas of the two countries. This exercise is aimed at maintaining the combat readiness of the forces, fighting terrorism, and ensuring lasting peace.”

Additionally, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia released a statement indicating that the joint exercise took place from April 9 to 10. According to the ministry, special forces units from both the Armenian and Iranian Armed Forces participated. The Armenian Armed Forces conducted their portion of the exercise within Armenia’s borders, while Iranian forces conducted their part within Iranian territory.

The exercise focused on operations to eliminate simulated terrorist attacks targeting border checkpoints located along the Armenia-Iran state border.
