Hamas has called for the prosecution of Israel and its leaders in international courts after Israeli forces detonated explosives inside the Palestinian-Türkiye Friendship Hospital in northern Gaza, completely destroying the facility.

In a written statement, Hamas condemned the Israeli military’s actions, describing the destruction of the hospital as a “sadistic act” and a reflection of Israel’s continued “genocidal campaign” against the Palestinian people.

The statement emphasized that the hospital—Gaza’s only facility for treating cancer patients—was demolished following the U.S. administration’s green light for Israel to continue its military operations in disregard of international law.

Hamas urged the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and other relevant judicial bodies to take legal action against Israel and its leaders for what it described as war crimes.

What Happened?

  • The Israeli military blew up the Palestinian-Türkiye Friendship Hospital in northern Gaza, claiming Hamas was using it for military purposes.
  • The hospital, built by Türkiye’s TIKA agency, was the only cancer treatment facility in Gaza and included 180 rooms, operating theaters, intensive care units, and laboratories.
  • During Israel’s ground offensive after Oct. 7, 2023, the hospital was used by Israeli forces as a military base, with armored vehicles stationed inside and around the facility.
  • Videos shared on social media showed Israeli soldiers vandalizing medical equipment inside the hospital, sparking international outrage.
