Hamas’ military leader Mohammed Deif has been killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza Strip. Israel had identified Deif as the target of their July 13 attack on Khan Younis.

Following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, speculation has arisen about potential successors, with Deif being one of the prominent names.

An official statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) today confirmed, “On July 13, 2024, IDF aircraft struck the Khan Younis area, and after intelligence evaluation, it has been confirmed that Mohammed Deif was eliminated in the attack.”

The Israeli military had previously claimed the strike was on a “safe” area in the Mawasi region.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the attack resulted in at least 71 deaths and 289 injuries.

The Israeli Army Radio emphasized that the target of the strike near Khan Younis was “very important,” specifying, “The target was Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif.”

Deif, born in 1965, was the head of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and was known for orchestrating the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation.
