Greece on yellow alert due to wildfire risk
Greece has issued a high fire risk alert for large parts of the country due to elevated wildfire risks with a yellow alert.
According to the climate crisis and civil protection ministry’s fire risk forecast map, many regions are under a high wildfire threat. These areas include Attica (which includes Athens), Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Halkidiki, Crete, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, and Rhodes.
The fire department has been placed on a second-level alert, and aerial surveillance patrols will be conducted throughout the day.
Officials have urged citizens to be cautious and avoid activities that could cause fires. The importance of following official instructions in the event of a fire has been emphasized.
