Ismail as-Sewabite, head of the Gaza government’s media office, accused Israel of obstructing humanitarian aid deliveries in violation of the cease-fire agreement.

He stated that Israel has delayed the entry of essential supplies, despite a commitment to allow 600 aid trucks per day.

Ismail as-Sewabite also highlighted the severe shortages of shelter, medical equipment, and necessities, emphasizing that the limited assistance reaching Gaza is insufficient for those displaced by the conflict.

Why it matters

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains critical. Infrastructure destruction, mass displacement, and restricted aid flow have left millions struggling for survival. The lack of proper shelter and medical support is worsening conditions, while prolonged delays in aid deliveries threaten to escalate tensions.

Context

  • Over 61,000 deaths: Since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, including those still trapped under rubble.
  • Mass displacement: Nearly 2 million people—almost the entire population—have been forced from their homes.
  • Severe shortages: Aid shipments have been insufficient, with urgent needs for food, medical supplies, and temporary housing for 250,000 displaced people.
  • Unfulfilled agreements: A deal allowing 60,000 container homes and 200,000 tents has not been fully implemented.
  • Inconsistent aid supplies: Some trucks entering Gaza have carried non-essential goods instead of crucial humanitarian relief.

Ismail as-Sewabite urged international mediators to pressure Israel into complying with aid commitments, warning that continued delays could further destabilize the region.
