Former Greek Cypriot FM calls out administration over Murataga massacre
Former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Southern Cyprus, Erato Kozaku Markulli, has shared a photo of Cypriot Turkish children murdered by Greek Cypriots on social media, accusing the Greek Cypriot administration of failing to take action against the perpetrators.
On her social media account, Markulli posted the last photo of elementary school children killed in the 1974 Murataga massacre, asserting that Cyprus Turkish people were killed by EOKA-B.
Markulli stated, “All the children were killed by EOKA-B. This photo reveals the tragedy once again,” highlighting that despite knowing the identities of the massacre’s perpetrators, the Greek Cypriot administration has not taken any steps regarding the issue. She criticized the authorities with the message, “No one has been punished for these disgusting crimes.”
In response to the post, some Greek Cypriot users claimed they were unaware of the massacre, while others argued there were justifications for the massacre. In light of the reactions, Markulli set the picture as the cover photo on her social media account.
Markulli’s post marks the first time a former Greek Cypriot official has publicly acknowledged civilian massacres.
