Former CNN International reporter exposes pro-Israel bias
Former CNN International reporter Ana Maria Monjardino revealed that she resigned due to the pro-Israel bias the channel’s leadership pursued after Oct. 7, 2023.
In an article published by Al Jazeera Institute, she wrote, ”The pro-Israeli rhetoric at CNN/CNNi is far too deep-rooted and unwilling to change fast enough to stop what is now a genocide of the Palestinian people.”
She said that despite CNNi, being “less biased” compared to CNN domestic, CNN International’s coverage can not be deemed innocent.
CNN International spreads misinformation
In her article, she accused both CNNi and CNN domestic of internationally spreading misinformation regarding Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
‘Journalists need to question their role’
She wrote, ”That genocide is now recognized around the world, including by the governments of Colombia and South Africa. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant for crimes against humanity and war crimes. Yet CNN/CNNi continuously spreads misinformation and publishes reports that pander to the Israeli regime.”
She emphasized the need for journalists to question their involvement in the ongoing genocide in Israel and their capacity to influence its continuation.
In her statement, Monjardino criticized the network’s lack of Palestinian voices in its broadcasts and its frequent reliance on Israeli and Western sources, which she said contributed to a misinformation campaign.
She wrote, “We must all be grateful for the courage of the Palestinian people, but this gratitude cannot be separated from the responsibility to resist on their behalf. For me, this responsibility goes beyond protests and fundraising; it also involves continuously challenging the biases in mainstream media. Questioning what we are told and how it is told has become central to my growth as a young journalist, regardless of my career ambitions.”
