Erdogan stresses solidarity with Egypt to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday emphasized the importance of solidarity with Egypt in ensuring the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi on the sidelines of the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed the urgency of securing a sustainable cease-fire and guaranteeing uninterrupted humanitarian assistance to the region, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate reported.
“President Erdogan stated that a lasting and sustainable cease-fire in Gaza must be achieved as soon as possible, and that the solidarity between Türkiye and Egypt would play a key role in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to the region,” the directorate said in a post on X.
Erdogan highlighted that deepening Türkiye-Egypt cooperation would significantly contribute to these efforts.
Regarding the situation in Syria, Erdogan emphasized that the Syrian people should decide their own future.
He underscored the importance of Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting reconstruction and reconciliation efforts in the country.
$15B trade volume with Egypt
On bilateral relations with Egypt, Erdogan noted Ankara’s dedication to expanding cooperation in sectors such as defense, energy, transportation, and development. He also reiterated Türkiye’s goal of reaching a $15 billion trade volume with Egypt.
The D-8 summit, themed “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy,” opened in Cairo on Thursday.
The D-8 group, established in Istanbul in 1997, aims to strengthen economic and social relations among its member states — Türkiye, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, and Malaysia. Azerbaijan also joined the group on Thursday.
