Coup attempt foiled in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan’s National Security Council said in a statement that a group preparing to stage a coup attempt in the country was caught red-handed.
The council confirmed the detention of at least five individuals, with indications that further operations could ensue. Significant quantities of ammunition and weapons were reportedly seized during the raids.
Kyrgyzstan, situated in Central Asia, has a history marked by frequent coups and shifts in power through social movements and revolutions.
Most recently, a group allegedly preparing for a coup attempt was arrested in Kyrgyzstan on Jan. 11.
