A bomb attack targeted Saygin Haceroglu, head of the Turkmen House Bureau of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC), in the center of Kirkuk, leaving Haceroglu and five others injured. The attack took place in the Kasaphane district, where an explosive device was placed in front of Haceroglu’s workplace and detonated remotely, according to local sources.

Haceroglu sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, along with the other five victims, whose conditions have not been disclosed. Iraqi Turkmen Front Kirkuk MP Ersat Salihi made a statement on the incident on the social media platform X.

“I call on our security forces to take action. In the vile terrorist attack targeting Turkmens in Kirkuk, Turkmen House Organization head Saygin Haceroglu and civilians with him were injured. Serious steps must be taken immediately to clear out terrorists!”

Iraqi Turkmen Front condemns attack

In response to the attack, ITC President Hasan Turan issued a statement strongly condemning the bombing. He labeled the incident a “terrorist attack” and expressed concern over the growing violence targeting Turkmen officials in Kirkuk.

“The attack on Saygin Haceroglu is a clear attempt to destabilize the security and unity of Kirkuk,” Turan said in the statement. “Despite these attacks, we will not allow the city’s social cohesion to be broken.”

Turan also emphasized that innocent civilians were harmed in the attack, highlighting the ongoing threat of terrorism in the region. He urged Iraq‘s chief of general staff to launch an investigation and swiftly bring those responsible to justice.

ITC calls for security measures

Turan called on authorities to take immediate steps to prevent future attacks aimed at undermining Kirkuk‘s stability and security. He also stressed the importance of protecting both citizens and officials from terrorist threats.

The city of Kirkuk, long known for its relative stability, has increasingly become a target for violence, with officials warning that such incidents aim to disrupt the region’s peace and unity.
