Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov calls for the implementation of a 2020 agreement on cross-border access between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.

Bayramov: Armenia must honor transit pledge

Azerbaijan expects Armenia to provide unimpeded access between Azerbaijan’s western regions and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said during a joint press conference with Slovenia’s Foreign and European Affairs Minister Tanja Fajon in Baku.

“Armenia pledged in 2020 to allow this transit, and that commitment must be fulfilled,” Bayramov stated. “For Azerbaijan, this passage must be unhindered. Citizens and cargo must be able to travel freely from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan).”

Bayramov emphasized that the transit should not be subject to any future legislative changes in Armenia that could hinder this movement.

He described the situation as unique in the region, highlighting that no other country in the area is geographically split in the same manner.

Azerbaijan urges peace treaty and constitutional reforms in Armenia

Bayramov also reiterated Baku’s expectations for finalizing a peace treaty with Armenia.

He said he communicated Azerbaijan’s positions to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during their meeting at the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum held April 11–13.

Bayramov noted that the peace process requires specific actions from Yerevan, including constitutional amendments in Armenia and the formal dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Georgia hosts regional cooperation talks in Tbilisi

Meanwhile, diplomatic representatives from Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia met in Tbilisi to explore avenues for enhancing regional cooperation.

The meeting was attended by deputy foreign ministers from the three countries.

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said the meeting was part of a broader effort to strengthen practical, trilateral cooperation that serves the region’s long-term prosperity and stability.

“The South Caucasus is a region with vast potential and strategic importance. We aim to identify common interests and promote cooperation,” Botchorishvili said in a written statement.

The talks were held behind closed doors and, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, do not conflict with existing regional cooperation formats.
