Azerbaijan has pledged to construct a 600-student capacity school in the Palestinian city of Nablus, as announced by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Azerbaijan’s commitment to Palestinian humanitarian efforts

During his address at the OIC meeting, Bayramov highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Palestine, citing civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, and shortages of essential resources such as food and water.

He emphasized that the use of force against civilians is unacceptable and called for immediate and decisive measures to address the situation.

Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan‘s support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, based on the two-state solution in accordance with international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.

He stressed the importance of maintaining the cease-fire established in January and avoiding actions that could escalate tensions further.

Bayramov recalled that since the escalation of hostilities in 2023, Azerbaijan has provided $2 million in humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.

In addition to humanitarian assistance, Azerbaijan has undertaken initiatives in education and healthcare. For the 2024-2025 academic years, 15 Palestinian students have been awarded the Heydar Aliyev International Education Scholarship.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan has committed to building a school in Nablus, demonstrating its long-term investment in Palestinian education and development.
