Azerbaijan receives 1st 155 mm L-45 Dita howitzer from Czech Republic
The Azerbaijan Army has received its first 155 mm L-45 Dita howitzer, procured from the Czech Republic. Mounted on a Tarta T815 8×8 chassis, this modern howitzer is designed for high operational efficiency.
The Dita howitzer features a fully automated system with only a driver and a commander, aimed at enhancing both firepower and maneuverability.
This acquisition is part of Azerbaijan’s strategy to enhance its defense capabilities and modernize its military equipment. Following its victory in the Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan expects to incorporate this howitzer into its arsenal to strengthen its deterrence capabilities.
Features and performances of L-45 Dita
- Firepower: With HE BB ammunition, the 155 mm L-45 gun can shoot up to 39 kilometers (24.23 miles).
- Crew: A fully automated system equips the howitzer, requiring only a driver and a commander.
- Speed and power: Equipped with a 300 kilowatt (kW) Tatra T3C-928-90 engine, it can reach speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour on roads.
- Automation: The gun’s positioning and firing adjustments are fully automated.
- Protection: Crew protection is provided by Stanag 4569 Level 1 ballistic protection.
Under the agreement with Czech defense company Excalibur Army, Azerbaijan will receive over 70 units of the 155 mm/L45 Dita howitzer. This is the largest order for Czech or Slovak artillery systems since 1989.
In addition, Azerbaijan has recently announced plans to acquire 48 units of the 155 mm Nora howitzer from Slovakia. The Dita howitzers will complement Azerbaijan’s existing artillery inventory, which includes the 122 mm 2S1 Gvozdika, 152 mm 2S3 Akatsiya, 152 mm 2S19 Msta-S, and 152 mm Dana-M1M self-propelled howitzers, significantly boosting its artillery capabilities.
