Azerbaijan acquires it’s 1st JF-17C fighter jets co-produced by Pakistan, China
Azerbaijan has officially added JF-17C fighter jets, co-produced by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC), to its military arsenal.
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev inspected the newly acquired jets during a presentation at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport. He was accompanied by Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and senior military officials from Pakistan.

The JF-17C (Block III) jets are lightweight, multi-role aircraft designed for operations in all weather conditions, day or night. During the presentation, President Aliyev was briefed on the technical specifications and operational capabilities of the aircraft, which boasts strong air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities and high maneuverability at medium and low altitudes.
The addition of these advanced jets marks a significant enhancement of Azerbaijan’s Air Force capabilities. “With the integration of the JF-17C into our military, Azerbaijan’s defensive and offensive capabilities are set to increase,” noted Defense Minister Hasanov.
Growing defense collaboration
The acquisition of the JF-17C jets is another milestone in Azerbaijan’s defense collaboration with Pakistan and China.
The JF-17C was developed as part of a joint project between PAC and CAC, further strengthening military ties between the three nations. Azerbaijan’s military modernization and the expansion of its arsenal are key priorities under the leadership of President Aliyev.
Since Azerbaijan’s victory in the Second Karabakh War, the country has entered a new phase of military development, focusing on improving the combat readiness and technological capabilities of its armed forces.
Azerbaijan’s strategic ties with Pakistan
Azerbaijan and Pakistan have enjoyed strong diplomatic and defense ties for years, with the two nations offering mutual support on international platforms. Azerbaijani President Aliyev’s state visit to Pakistan in July 2023 further solidified this partnership, paving the way for enhanced military cooperation.
