Athens launches investigation into anti-Türkiye slogans at Greek navy parade

The Greek navy has initiated a disciplinary investigation after anti-Türkiye slogans were chanted during a military parade held on March 25, commemorating Greece’s Independence Day.
Greece’s opposition parties and many citizens argued that the event damaged the Greek military’s sense of discipline, while Türkiye also responded. Turkish Foreign Ministry sources described the incident as “unacceptable and an arrogant provocation,” demanding an explanation from Athens.
This development has triggered widespread debates about military discipline and national identity, raising tensions not only within Greece but also with neighbor Türkiye. Both countries are members of the NATO defense structure.
Incident
The controversy erupted when students from the Navy Petty Officers’ School were seen shouting slogans such as “Cyprus is Greek, f… Türkiye” during the national parade.
