Armed clash between Taliban, Pakistani border forces in Khost
An armed clash occurred between Taliban and Pakistani border forces in Afghanistan’s Khost province.
Molla Bilal, security director of the Ghulam Khan Border Crossing, told Afghan media that a confrontation broke out between the two sides at the border crossing in Khost last evening.
The clash continued until 2 a.m., but Molla Bilal did not provide details regarding the cause of the conflict or whether there were any casualties.
Bilal confirmed that the situation is now under control.
The most recent clash between Taliban and Pakistani forces occurred on Sept. 4. The Taliban government, including the current administration, does not officially recognize the Durand Line, which is considered the border between the two countries on the international stage.
The Afghan side’s construction of checkpoints along the Durand Line has been a significant point of contention between the two nations.
Pakistan, on the other hand, accuses Afghanistan of playing a role in terrorist attacks within its territory, claiming that the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) is stationed in Afghanistan and that the Taliban government has not taken action against the group. Afghanistan denies these allegations and maintains that it has no involvement in Pakistan’s internal security issues.
Border disputes between Afghanistan and Pakistan persist, and from time to time, these tensions lead to armed clashes, sometimes resulting in fatalities.
