Türkiye has become a participant in the Safe2Eat campaign, launched by the European Union’s European Food Safety Authority, to assist consumers in making informed food choices.

In a statement released by Türkiye’s Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday, it was announced that the communication campaign, previously available only to E.U. member states, now allows candidate countries to participate as of this year. The campaign aims to provide consumers with current, science-based information about food.

Since 2020, the campaign has focused on helping consumers make informed decisions and reducing food waste.

As part of the Safe2Eat campaign, which reached over 45% of its target audience in Europe last year, more than 50 million European consumers were educated about food safety through social media and other communication platforms.

The campaign influenced consumers to alter their behavior by placing a greater emphasis on food safety when making purchasing decisions.

This year’s Safe2Eat2025 campaign will include Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, the Greek Cypriot administration, Northern Macedonia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Greece, with Türkiye as a participating country.

In line with the campaign, a wide range of activities will be organized throughout the year, both at the E.U. level and in participating countries.

While the campaign plans to raise consumer awareness through messages on its official website, it also aims to inform them through educational materials.

Social media campaigns will use the hashtag #Safe2EatEU to strengthen the interaction between consumers.
