Professor Atature receives science medal, unexpected Romance with Sarisin unveiled

Professor Mete Atature, recipient of this year’s Koc University Rahmi M. Koc Science Medal—one of Türkiye’s most prestigious scientific honors—was recognized for his pioneering work in quantum optics and quantum technologies.

Atature, who leads the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, was honored for his groundbreaking contributions to the field.

Star-studded love story emerges

The award ceremony, held earlier this week, turned into a platform for a surprise revelation. Renowned actress Duygu Sarisin was in attendance, sparking curiosity about her connection to the event. It was later revealed that Sarisin and Atature are in a relationship. The couple, who have a 12-year age difference, reportedly arrived at the ceremony hand in hand.

Sarisin, previously in a high-profile relationship with fellow actor Cagatay Ulusoy for seven years, ended her relationship in January 2023.

At the event, Duygu Sarisin also met Atature’s family, including his father, Professor Suha Atature, and his mother, artist Huriye Atature, marking a significant step in their relationship.

The award was presented to Atature by Koc University’s Rector Professor Metin Sitti and Honorary Chairman of the Board of Trustees Rahmi Koc.

After graduating from Bilkent University’s Physics Department, Atature pursued his doctorate at the Quantum Imaging Laboratory of Boston University. Currently, he leads the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge and co-directs the U.K. Quantum Technology Hub Q-BIOMED. He is also the co-founder of Nu Quantum, a leading firm in quantum technologies. Over the years, Atature has received numerous accolades for his contributions to science.

Adding to the buzz, an Instagram account named “Gossippastanew” unveiled a photo of Duygu Sarisin and Professor Atature taken back in 2015, hinting that their connection might have roots in the past.

Meanwhile, fans of Sarisin’s previous relationship with actor Cagatay Ulusoy continue to discuss the unexpected end of their seven-year romance, which many had anticipated would lead to marriage.
