New nature adventure unlocked: Explore Mount Ararat’s meteor craters in Türkiye
The meteor craters at an altitude of 3,500 meters on Mount Ararat, also known as Mount Agri, which is a dormant compound volcano in Eastern Türkiye, have become a new route for climbers.
Mount Ararat is the highest peak in Türkiye at 11,483 feet (5,137 meters) and attracts climbers from both domestic and international locations throughout the year.
Summer climbing season begins in Türkiye
As the summer climbing season begins, climbers in groups are heading to the summit, completing various activities along the way.
The twin meteor craters on the northern side of the mountain have recently become a popular new challenge. Reaching these craters requires an 8 to 9-hour climb starting from the Korhan region.
Ali Ozturk, a climber, emphasized the appeal of Mount Ararat’s natural beauty to nature enthusiasts. “We started our climb from the Korhan Plateau at 2,200 meters at 5:00 a.m. and reached our destination around 2:00 p.m.,” he said.
“Mount Ararat is a mountain that everyone dreams of climbing, with many unexplored areas. Today, we visited the twin meteor craters on the northeast slope. This is a place that everyone, including scientists and climbers, wants to see,” he added.
Türkiye’s Mount Ararat offers exciting climbing experience
Sunay Arslan, another nature enthusiast, shared his experience of reaching the meteor craters after the long climb:”I’ve previously climbed to Lake Kup from this route, which is at the same altitude and region.”
“We saw the twin meteor craters this time. I loved this route. As climbers from Igdir, we will continue to discover new routes each time. We invite all nature lovers and climbers here,” he stated.
